Fireside: Acceptance and Belonging

Fireside: Acceptance and Belonging

It was full house again as Dwelling community members and newcomers streamed into the cafe, filling up the space with lively chatter as they eagerly got back in touch with familiar faces and made new friends. And with a quick introduction from Julia, our discussions for the topic went into full swing!

Fueled with questions from the Question Bucket and those new to Dwelling, we broke into smaller groups to tackle issues such as self-acceptance, belonging in a group, rejection, and the necessity of acceptance.

The Road to Freedom @ POMO TCC

The Road to Freedom @ POMO TCC

We had a special guest joining us for the first Fireside of the Freedom Sessions, our speaker about The Road to Freedom, Ryan Paugh! With a quick lively introduction from Julia, Ryan kicked off the discussion with a brief summary of his talk for those who missed our Speaker Night and picked the first question from the bucket: “How do we have the freedom to live the life that we believe in, not what other people believe in?” This was met with a pregnant pause, and one could sense the weight of that question in the air!

[Movie Discussion] The Leadership Journey @ POMO TCC

[Movie Discussion] The Leadership Journey @ POMO TCC

"What we do in life echoes in eternity." What impact do you make in this world? What will you be remembered for?

At our last Dwelling Philosophy Session, we saw how the virtues Maximus embodied as a leader in the movie Gladiator won him the respect, admiration and loyalty of the crowd. We also saw different leadership approaches by different leaders. What appealed to you and why? Now let us engage in close dialogue about what we learned about leadership and being a leader from the movie. If you could write down 20 statements about leadership, what would be on your list? How would you apply those statements in your life, in who you are and what you do?

The Leadership Journey @ POMO TCC

At our Speaker Night on Leadership, you heard our three powerful speakers share about their own experience of being a leader in their life. Throughout the conversation, we could hear leadership themes and principles emerge as they shared about being their higher self, going beyond ego, making choices that are true to themselves even if others may disagree, and communicating what is important clearly and honestly. We all agreed that leaders are leaders because they make things happen, and it is through staying on the path and constantly moving that they ultimately find their purpose. In our followup Fireside, we delved deeper into the leadership journey and inquired deeper into what it means to be a leader.

What's your Charisma? @ POMO TCC

The start of July marked the end of our Dwelling Charisma series, with our last cosy discussion on attractiveness and its relationship to you. Again when we split into our separate groups, the conversation spiralled in many different directions, almost too varied to count! The mystery of conversation probably lies in how each different combination of friends, gathered around a friendly fire (in cave side times) or a bucket of questions (a la Dwelling-style), opens up an opportunity for sharing that is always unexpected, and always different.
